The Northern California Glass Management Association (NCGMA) represents union glass installation contractors. Our primary purpose is to represent and promote the best interests of our members in all areas of labor relations.
We also keep members informed about current business trends, provide a place for members to go for legislation and regulatory issues, and provide educational training programs for owners and their office personnel.
A Letter from our President: John Maggiore, President NCGMA,
and President of Royal Glass Company.
The fourth quarter of 2009 has been challenging due to the economic environment. Even so, this has been a progressive period for the Northern California Glass Management Association. At the recent NCGMA Annual Membership meeting on October 15, 2009 the members elected new directors and officers. (See summary article inside)
The 2009 – 2010 NCGMA Officers / Board of Directors:
John Maggiore-President (Royal Glass Co.), Skip Weltz-Vice President (Walters & Wolf Glass), Chris Bagatelos-Treasurer (Bagatelos Architectural), Mark Dutrow-Secretary (U.S. Glass, Inc.), Desmond O’Reilly-Director (O’Reilly & Faina), Joe Brescia-Alternate Director (Architectural Glass & Aluminum), Steve Stewart-Alternate Director (Signature Glass & Window), Nick Lauria-Alternate Director (Progress Glass), Nick Bagatelos-Alternate Director (Bagatelos Architectural).
For the first time ever James Williams-General President, IUPAT invited NCGMA contractors to attend a “Contractor Day” to give us an understanding of how they make changes to the International Constitution. Representing NCGMA were Skip Weltz (Walters & Wolf Glass), Joe Brescia (Architectural Glass & Aluminum), Jim Maggiore (Royal Glass Co.) and Executive Director John Kusper. . They said it was very informative and we will be seeing some changes in the DC 16 bylaws next year.
The Journeyman and Apprenticeship Training Trust Fund had a dinner and ceremony for graduating apprentices at Scotts in Jack London Square in Oakland. There were over 400 contractors, apprentices and guests in attendance. We had 51 Glaziers graduate this year.
In November Joe Brescia, Skip Weltz, Jim Maggiore, John Kusper, Mike Mullins and I attended the LMCI Finishing Industries Forum in Las Vegas. This conference is attended by hundreds of labor and management representatives from across the country. It is an opportunity to hear new ideas and possible solutions to the many problems confronting the industry during these difficult economic times. We attended a meeting of the California Glazing Industry Assessment & Action Plan Committee. The committee reviewed the plan that will be executed to facilitate an increase in Union market share and Union membership and established a time line.
